Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 victories have been achieved on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player claimed his maiden championship for nearly 30 months with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open championship match.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the US Open.

The player's inconsistency on the professional circuit - and issues with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently training with Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over challenger Moutet.

This marks the player's maiden championship after the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface since March of 2023.

The win also means Medvedev has achieved 21 victories at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my both daughters at once, so to win a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in dedication of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had been defeated in his last six championship matches, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's counter-punching strategy and recurring reactions on the playing surface had caused commentators to doubt if his skill to perform at the top level was concluded.

Yet the player has implemented adjustments in the past month, making an effort to advance forward and perform aggressively, supported by an improved serving game.

Medvedev recovered from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the final five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before the challenger, striving for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a third set.

The opponent defended four initial opportunities in a tight final set before the champion broke to 15 to close out the victory.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched the title with a rally at the net area, with Moutet failing to handle a return after a lengthy match.
