Exploring an Unique Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Poop in a Mission to Find the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is currently underway, and players have encountered plenty of engaging creations from small studios. But, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer features a protagonist that is actually a piece of poop trying to navigate to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: just use a single jump button. Throughout 150 stages, encounter tough enemies and unlock a store to acquire customizations for your poop character.
Plan your actions carefully, as a mistake means starting over. Jump using floating orbs to propel your character to new heights, traverse fragile ledges, and activate triggers to open secret routes. Collect coins for buying challenging stages in which the action ramps up.
Graphically, the game features vibrant level designs and catchy music score. The simple art featuring shifting abstract forms evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.
Although hard to name other games where you control a piece of feces, gaming frequently featured toilet humor. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create throwables from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize feces as fertilizer. Naturally, this theme appears a lot in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous premise, Unko Technica has already received notable awards, such as being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. The demo is available now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on PC this November.
