Thomas Tuchel Questions Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Win Over Wales.
The England head coach expressed his regret that the England team did not get more encouragement from the Wembley fans during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was pleased to see his side continue their good form, with goals from Rogers, Ollie Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes settling the contest. Yet, he was unhappy with the mood at the iconic venue.
“We had one and a half training days to get ready against a organized team and we performed excellently,” Tuchel remarked. “We could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We missed the additional ones. There was little noise. There was no any energy from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“How much more can you give in the first quarter? We didn’t let them escape. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s disappointing because the team warranted more support today.”
“I support my words. We cannot do more than leading 3-0 in a rivalry match. I would have wished for a greater support in moments where it gets difficult.”
“In the second half, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It could have helped us to regain energy, but that’s football and so be it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Display
Apart from risking a fight with supporters, Tuchel also created controversy by excluding Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. But the choice was backed up by Morgan Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and getting his first international goal.
“That’s his style,” Tuchel said. “He is a No 10 and he is fighting for his spot.”
Bellamy Hopes for Lessons from Loss
The Wales manager expressed hope that his team, who host a strong Belgian side in a crucial World Cup qualifier on Monday, learn from their disappointing first-half display.
“This is why I scheduled this game,” Bellamy said. “I need to see where we are. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? This performance gives me inspiration.”
Injury Concern for Watkins
Ollie Watkins was substituted at the break after hitting a post and will be a doubt when England face their next opponents in Riga in a qualifier on Tuesday.
